WPRX #1241 RUNNING CRANE LAKE
Description:
Built in 1950 by AC&F in Lot #3445 as GN Ranch Ccr #1241 RUNNING CRANE LAKE, 1 of 6 such cars (#1240-#1245) built in that Lot for the Mid-Century EMPIRE BUILDER, which was ordered in October 1949; cars were delivered bet~een October 1950 and March 1951. The Ranch Cars had a 14 seat lunch counter, a 12 seat dinette, and a 18 seat lounge. #1240-#1242 and #1244-#1245 were owned by GN; #1243 was owned by CB&Q after 1953. In 1974, Amtrak acquired 4 of these cars as #8150-#8153, the #1241 as #8150. Amtrak increased the lounge and dinette seating from 30 to 34. The #8150 was retired in July 1;81 and in 1983 to the Nicolet Badger Northern in Laona, WI. The car was later owned by Golden State Limited in Verdi, NV, before being acquired by Lou Steplock-Wyoming & Pacific as WPRX #1241. GN 14 seat lunch counter-30 seat lounge "Ranch Car" #1241 RUNNING CRANE LAKE (AC&F, Lot #3445, November 1950), built for assignment to the 1951 (a.k.a., the "Mid-Century") edition of the EMPIRE BUILDER, to BN via merger in March 1970, sold to Amtrak in 1974 as #8150 (lounge seating replaced by 34 dining seats), retired in July 1981 and resold in 1983 to Robert Klein, d.b.a., Golden State Limited (Verdi/Reno, NV), later resold to Nicolet Badger Northern (Laona, WI), later resold in circa 1993 to Dr. Louis Steplock, d.b.a., Wyoming & Pacific, as WPRX #1241 (#800267) (Albany, OR), and leased to the Albany & Eastern RR (Lebanon, OR). Scanned with an Epson V550 from a duplicate 35mm slide, brand is unknown. Date and photographer are unknown.
